Join the HIMSS Patient-Centered Payer Roundtable at its next monthly meeting this Thursday, October 20, from 4:00-5:00pm EST for a discussion with Michael R. Solomon on “Success of Patient-Centered Accountable Care Depends on Successful HIEs.” Major initiatives to develop accountable care organizations and their patient-centered medical homes core are being announced with increasing frequency.
Connectivity to a health information exchange is essential for providers to effectively coordinate care – a key performance indicator of an Accountable Care Organization. Despite the strategic importance of health information exchanges to these new ventures, most hospitals and physician organizations remain disconnected. HIE enterprises confront major challenges in gaining broad adoption and becoming financially viable.
A few maturing health information exchange organizations are leading the way, demonstrating that a growing, self-sustaining HIE business is possible. This month’s Roundtable discussion will describe a sustainable business model for HIEs, discuss the engagement of payers, and explore factors that are emerging as critical indicators of an HIE’s success, based on evidence from the field.
